I am a 1979 valedictory graduate of Rison High School. I graduated Magna cum Laude in 1983 from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, AR, with a degree in Elementary Education and Library Science, and a minor in Math. I received my Master’s degree from Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, AR, in Instructional Media in 1998.
I began teaching at Genoa Central School District in the fall of 1996, in the brand-new library at Gary E. Cobb Middle School. I added over 8,000 titles to the once-bare shelves, helped establish the Accelerated Reader program, and maintained a collection of print and non-print materials, including the latest in technology. I moved to the High School media center in the fall of 2012 and have added almost two thousand items to circulation. I maintain the HS webpage, assist with testing, and act as the district eSchool parent/guardian account manager, as well as other duties, as needed.
My first teaching jobs were as math teacher – I was hired upon graduation from OBU in 1983 as the upper-level math teacher at Fouke High School, teaching subjects such as Trigonometry, Algebra I & II, Geometry, and Consumer Math. I remained there for two years, serving as Junior Class sponsor and as cheerleader sponsor in addition to my teaching duties, then I moved to Texarkana AR School District, where I was a 7th grade math teacher. I remained at this position until I took maternity leave for my first child in 1983, which extended through my second son born in 1991. I resumed my teaching career in 1996.
My husband, Raymond, and I have been married since 1983. We are the proud parents of two sons, both Genoa Central High School honor graduates – Nathan, an Air Force Tech Sergeant, working in Intelligence, and Nicholas (Nick), an educator with the AR Game & Fish. Nathan, his wife, Gee, and son, Blake, live in northern California, and Nick and his fiance, Hannah, live in northern Arkansas. We currently have three feline fur babies living at home.
